About us

Road information built for the mountains

GB Road Updates is an independent, community-supported platform that publishes real-time road status, weather context and practical travel information for every district of Gilgit-Baltistan.

What we do

Travel in Gilgit-Baltistan depends on a handful of lifeline corridors — the Karakoram Highway, the Gilgit–Skardu road, Babusar Top, the Shandur corridor and dozens of valley link roads. A single landslide, snowfall event or flash flood can close a route for hours or days, and that information is often scattered across official notices, local WhatsApp groups and word of mouth.

We pull those signals into one place: current status for each major route and segment, district-wise destination guides, trek references, and travel articles written for people who are actually about to drive these roads.

Our mission

Help travellers, drivers, transporters and local residents make safer decisions before they set out. We are not a news outlet chasing headlines — the goal is simple, accurate, fast-to-read status information so that nobody starts a nine-hour journey into a closed pass.

Independent and community-supported

The platform is built and maintained independently. It is not operated by any government department. We reference official sources such as NHA and district administration advisories where available, and combine them with reports submitted by travellers and local contributors on the ground.

How submissions are verified

Every public report goes through a review step before it appears on the site:

  • Submitted: anyone can report a blockage or clearance with the route, location, type of obstruction and an optional photo.
  • Reviewed: our moderators check the report against location detail, timestamp, photo evidence and any other reports from the same corridor.
  • Published: approved reports appear as live updates with a timestamp so you can judge how fresh the information is.
  • Verified reporters: trusted local contributors — drivers, tour operators and residents with a track record of accurate reports — are granted verified status, and their updates publish faster and carry a verified badge.

Reports that cannot be corroborated, are duplicated, or lack enough location detail are rejected. Conditions change quickly, so please always read our disclaimer and confirm current conditions before departure.
