Rupal Valley

Rupal Valley lies beneath the colossal southern face of Nanga Parbat. Green fields, potato farms, pine forest, and traditional villages sit under the tallest mountain wall in the world.

About

Rupal Valley, in the south of Astore District, lies at the foot of the Rupal Face of Nanga Parbat. It is a forested valley with pine trees, terraced fields, glaciers, and cliffs, and the huge face of the mountain rises at its head. The valley is a mix of potato farms, small villages, and traditional wooden houses, and its people live as high-altitude farmers. The climate is cool even in summer, and the surroundings are among the most dramatic in the country. For most visitors, Rupal is the road that leads to Tarashing village and the base camps for Nanga Parbat. For others, it is a calm destination for photography, village walks, and short hikes.
