Gahkuch Valley

Gahkuch is the administrative centre of Ghizer, about 72 km from Gilgit, set among farmland and steep mountains along the Gilgit River. It is the gateway to Ishkoman, Yasin, Phander, and Shandur.

About

Gahkuch is the capital of Ghizer and the main town of the Punial area, about 72 km west of Gilgit. It sits on a wide stretch of the valley, surrounded by orchards, terraced fields, and rugged mountains. For travellers, Gahkuch is mostly a gateway and a stopping point. It has markets, restaurants, and hotels, and roads from here lead to Ishkoman Valley to the north and to Gupis, Yasin, Phander, and Shandur to the west. It is a good place to experience everyday life in Ghizer: local markets, village paths, and hospitality that is typical of the region. Many Ghizer tours begin or end here for the night.
