About
Karambar Lake, also called Qurumbar Lake, lies in the upper part of Ishkoman Valley near the border with Chitral. At roughly 4,272 metres, it is among the highest lakes in the world and one of the largest in northern Pakistan, around 3.9 km long. The lake is fed by glaciers, and its water is remarkably clear. It is surrounded by high peaks and open alpine terrain, and the area has been part of Qurumbar National Park since 2011. Reaching the lake is a serious high-altitude journey, usually combined with trekking over passes such as the Karambar Pass. It is not a casual day trip, but for experienced and well-prepared trekkers it offers some of the wildest scenery in Ghizer.
