About

Khalti Lake lies in Khalti village near Gupis, at an altitude of about 2,217 metres. The lake was formed when the river was dammed by a flood, and it now holds clear water that supports a trout population. In summer, the lake is a quiet, green spot ringed by fields, trees, and mountains, well suited for picnics and camping. In winter, the surface freezes thick enough for people to walk on, and locals enjoy ice skating and games on it. The lake hosts the Khalti Ice Hockey Festival every January, an annual event on the Gilgit-Baltistan tourism calendar. It is one of the best examples of winter tourism in the region.
