Punial Valley

Punial Valley is known as the Fruit Basket of Gilgit-Baltistan, with orchards, terraced fields, and old villages along the Gilgit River. It is the first stretch of Ghizer, easily visited on a day trip from Gilgit.

About

Punial is the first part of Ghizer when travelling west from Gilgit. It is famous as the Fruit Basket of Gilgit-Baltistan, with orchards of apricots, apples, and other fruits, and with farmed terraces spread along the river. The valley includes villages such as Sher Qila, Singal, Gulapur, and the district town of Gahkuch. Historically, Punial was a small valley state with local rulers, and the fort at Sher Qila was strategically important. A drive through Punial offers green views, river scenery, and the chance to buy fresh fruit from roadside stalls. It makes an easy and relaxed introduction to Ghizer.
