Satrangi Lake, Naltar

Satrangi Lake, the Seven Colored Lake, is the largest of the Naltar lakes. Surrounded by pine forests and mountains, its water shows many shades of blue and green that change with the light and weather.

About

Satrangi Lake is the best known of the Naltar Valley lakes. Its name means seven-coloured, because the water shows different shades of green and blue, created by mosses, aquatic plants, and the surrounding trees reflecting in the clear water. The lake sits above 3,000 metres, framed by dark pine forest and high rocky slopes. The colours shift through the day: soft green in the morning, deep blue at noon, and darker tones as clouds pass over the mountains. It is a calm, photogenic spot that is rarely crowded. The area around the lake is good for a picnic, short walks, and birdwatching. It is also the starting point for visiting Firoza Lake, which is only a short distance further up the gorge.
