Taj Mughal Minar (Mughali Shikar)

Taj Mughal Minar, locally called Mughali Shikar, is a historic stone monument about 700 years old, standing on a ridge above Gilgit. It is associated with Taj-ud-Din Mughal and offers a commanding view of Gilgit City and the surrounding mountains.

About

Taj Mughal Minar sits on the mountain ridge of Khomar and Jutial above Gilgit City. It is about 700 years old and is said to have been built by Taj-ud-Din Mughal, a ruler from Badakhshan, after he took Gilgit in the 1320s. The structure is around 20 to 25 feet high. For centuries the monument was neglected and slowly fell into disrepair. The Tourism and Culture departments of Gilgit-Baltistan, through the Gilgit Development Authority, have since rehabilitated and protected it without changing its original form. From the ridge, the view stretches over Gilgit City, Danyor, and the mountain ranges around. The walk up is short and rewarding, which makes it a good half-day trip for hikers and history lovers.
