Hoper Valley

Hoper Valley is a bowl-shaped valley in upper Nagar, about 10 km from Nagar Khas, where green potato fields and orchards sit beneath huge glaciers and snow peaks. It is the gateway to Rush Lake and the Hispar Muztagh range.

About

Hoper Valley (also written Hopar) sits in a natural bowl above the Hoper Glacier, with villages, terraced fields, and fruit orchards surrounded by high Karakoram peaks. It is about 10 km from Nagar Khas and is one of the most dramatic valleys in Nagar. Five glaciers meet around the valley, including the Hoper, Barpu, and Miar glaciers, and peaks such as Spantik (Golden Peak) and Bualtar rise above it. Rush Lake, one of the highest alpine lakes in the world, is reached by trekking from here. The people of Hoper speak Burushaski and are known for their hospitality. The valley is also famous for its potatoes, and its guesthouses make it a good base for glacier walks and longer treks.
