Baltoro Glacier & Concordia

Baltoro Glacier is a giant river of ice, about 35 miles long, leading to Concordia, where several glaciers meet beneath K2, Broad Peak, and Gasherbrum. It is the heart of the classic Karakoram trek.

About

Baltoro Glacier lies at the head of the Braldu Valley in Shigar District and runs about 35 miles (roughly 56 km) through some of the most dramatic mountain scenery on earth. The glacier is lined with rock towers and walls, including the Trango Towers, Cathedral Peak, and Muztagh Tower. At the top of the glacier is Concordia, at about 4,687 metres, a vast meeting place of glaciers and one of the great viewpoints of the world. From here, K2, Broad Peak, Gasherbrum IV, Mitre Peak, and other giants stand around in a circle, which is why Concordia is often called the Throne Room of the Mountain Gods. Famous campsites on the route include Paiju, which is the last camp with trees, and Urdukas, known for views of the Trango Towers and Muztagh Tower. The trek from Askole to Concordia and back usually takes around two to three weeks.
