Blind Lake (Zharba Tso)

Blind Lake, or Zharba Tso, is a peaceful freshwater lake between the Indus and Shigar rivers. It has no visible inlet or outlet, which gives it its name, and it lies on the road to Shigar and K2.

About

Blind Lake, known locally as Zharba Tso or Jarba Zhou, lies in Shigar District on the road between Skardu and Shigar Valley. It sits between two major rivers, the Indus and the Shigar, yet the lake itself has no visible inlet or outlet, which is why it is called blind. It is believed to be fed by underground seepage. The lake is about 1.4 km long and is used as a water reservoir by the people of Shigar Valley. Its blue water, sandy edges, and green grass make it a pleasant stop for a short walk and a picnic, with mountains and the cold desert close by. Because it lies on the classic route towards K2, it is a quiet, easy stop for travellers heading in or out of Shigar.
