About
Kharpocho Fort, also known as Skardu Fort, rises on a rocky hill over Skardu town. Its name means King of Forts in the Balti language, and it is linked with the historic rulers of Baltistan, including Ali Sher Khan Anchan. The fort was built to protect the kingdom from invasions, and its strategic position gives a wide view of the valley, the Indus River, and the town below. A walk up to the fort is a popular activity, and the climb is rewarded with some of the best panoramas in Skardu. Near the fort, a walking route leads to the village of Narsok and its organic farms, which makes it a pleasant half-day outing.
