Deosai plateau crossing

Deosai road update today — Skardu to Astore plateau status. This route crosses the Deosai Plains, one of the highest plateaus in the world, connecting Skardu to Astore. The drive takes approximately 4-6 hours depending on conditions, passing Sheosar Lake near the midpoint of the plateau. This route is only open from late May/June to September, as Deosai is completely snowbound the rest of the year. The unpaved sections across the plateau can become difficult after rain, and services along the way are extremely limited, so travelers should carry extra fuel, food, and water.
